Our bungalow was built in the 1960's and had had various changes made before we bought it. It already had double glazing, cavity wall and loft insulation.
It also had a south facing conservatory which is great for solar gain in spring and autumn. We can close it off completely if it is too hot or too cold.
Since buying it in 2015 we have added solar thermal with heat store, solar PV and most recently, in April of 2022 we installed a Mitsubishi Ecodan 8.5kw Air Source Heat Pump.
In order to make the air to water heat pump effective, we improved the double glazing to three windows and upsized three radiators.
We save water as much as we can. We have five water butts and save run off water during the summer.
We have developed a small organic vegetable plot in which we use raised beds and a no-dig system.
