3 Russell Road

 This is a detached chalet bungalow, 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, built in the late 1950s or early 1960s.  Our changes took just under a year to complete.  

We have added external wood.fibre insulation, added attic insulation, removed the chimney and the gas meter, and done significant air-tightness work (to stop warm air leaking out and cold air leaking in).  We have an MVHR system (merchanical ventilation with heat recovery).  

We replaced the windows and doors with triple-glazed units.  We replaced a conservatory (that was too hot even on a winter day and too cold at night) with a dining room, which is included in the insulated envelope of the house. We replaced a rotting wooden deck with a steel-frame deck.  

We have installed solar PV panels on the roof, a storage battery, and an EV charging point.  We have an air-source heat pump for heating and hot water.  (We have had air source heat pumps in a previous UK house and in Italy.)  We use an induction hob for cooking.

We are also planting an insect-friendly (wildlife friendly) garden.
